All of us have stories in our lives, and for those of us who are Christian we have our Christian story. I believe this idea of Christian story is a key part of our identity as a Christian school.
In the elementary grades the stories of scripture are taught repeatedly. Students learn about Biblical faith heroes like David, Samuel, Abraham, Deborah, Esther, and others. Students learn that these heroes of the faith also had flaws and failings.
As they get older Calvin students start to learn that these heroes aren't the only ones with stories. The students themselves start to see how God has worked in their lives as well. They can see that God loves them and has a plan for their lives. Their stories are developing and Calvin helps them see how that is taking place.
This is a classic example of how faith and learning work together at Calvin Christian. Students at Calvin gain knowledge (learn the facts of the BIblical stories) and as they mature, they understand the application to their lives and faith.
Over the next few weeks the blog will focus on how Calvin connects faith and learning. We will hear from some teachers on how they do that in the classroom, from some parents on how they see that happening in the lives of their children, and from students who already see it happening at school.
