On March 22 Calvin held its second annual State of the School meeting. The evening is designed to share with all stakeholders the progress on our five-year strategic plan and keep constituents updated on what is happening at school. Although a number of you attended and all of you are encouraged to attend in the future, I thought I would share a few bullet highlights of what was shared that evening.
- The school finances are in excellent condition. The total debt has been reduced to less than $300,000 and a balanced budget is being proposed for next year.
- The proposed tuition increase for 2012/2013 of 3.8% is the lowest in eight years.
- New curriculum changes in the elementary school include Singapore Math and adding second grade to the Spanish language program.
- High school students will have options to take online elective classes during the 2012/2013 school year. Calvin will be partnering with Christian Schools International to offer these classes that have a Biblical worldview throughout.
- The annual fall drive was a big reason this year’s budget will likely balance despite a projected shortfall. Nearly $280,000 was raised.
- Calvin again received the maximum 6-year accreditation from WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).
- Service learning has expanded in all grades and is now more intentional and embedded in the curriculum.
- The successful work of our new Director of Enrollment was highlighted. We are anticipating an increase in enrollment for the 2012/2013 school year.
Don’t forget the Dutch Festival is scheduled for April 21, 2012 on the jr. high/high school campus!
