Why We Are Here!

By August 31, 2012December 14th, 2020Faith & Learning

It is Friday afternoon at the end of the first week of school.  Already I am going to bed earlier because I am tired at the end of the day (and it was only a three day week!).  All these young people around bring an energy and excitement that we miss during the summer but they tire us out as well.  It is really good to have them back.  By the middle of August we start having what I call a “kid fix” in the office.  We have been busy getting ready but the reason we are here, the students, need to come back.  We need our “kid fix.”

One of the many meetings at the beginning of the year is “New Parent Orientation”.    We just had that on Tuesday, Aug.  28.  It is one of my favorite meetings as I get to be a teacher again.  I have the opportunity to teach parents about one of my passions, Calvin and Christian education.   Just this morning a new parent talked to me about something we discussed in this meeting.  How Calvin is a school and must do that well but also must be a very spiritual place.  She found it exciting that the two are not exclusive but complementary.  To be outstanding educationally we must weave in the Christian perspective in a meaningful and natural way.  This excited her and it excited me to have my passion shared by new parents.

I hope you too have a passion for connecting faith and learning.  Talk with your children about it and discover how they are learning about God and his world.  And please pray for everyone associated with Calvin this year, students, parents, and staff.  We are starting another exciting journey this year.  It feels great to have the students here and the campus buzzing.
