Summer Musings 2

By August 12, 2011December 14th, 2020Faith & Learning

The title of this blog is Summer Musings 2.  It is not a bad sequel to a bad movie but the second installment of what is happening at Calvin this summer.

It is now just a little over two weeks until school starts on Aug. 30.  What a fast month it has been.  Teachers are around and working to get ready for the new year.

In the last blog I talked about what is happening in the elementary school. This month I want to give an update on some exciting things going on in the junior high and high school.

In the athletic area we are pleased to announce the hiring of four new varsity coaches.  All come with experience and are excited to coach here at Calvin.  Randy Kreglow is the new football coach, Cassie Santos the new Cross Country coach, Dean Brunson the new Girls Basketball coach, and Steve Turley is the new Baseball coach.  More information about our new coaches will be posted soon in the athletic area of the website.

In the academic arena we are pleased to announce that we have received a new 6-year accreditation from WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).  Calvin was again recognized for its outstanding program and received the maximum accreditation.  Advanced Placement results were received.  80% passed vs. 60% that pass nationally and 64% in California.  That is incredibly high for any school.  In the high school this year three technololgy classes will be offered including Robotics, Computer Programming, and Basic Computers.

We are very pleased that enrollment is slightly up.   The freshman class is currently at 46.  This is the highest freshman enrollment in a number of years.  The junior high mixer and high school retreats are scheduled and we are nearly ready to start school.

We look forward to seeing you at Convocation on Aug. 30 at 11:00 in the gym.  We will meet both the classes of 2012 and 2024.  Don't miss it!
