Hello! I have the great pleasure of guest blogging today. My name is Heather Souders and I’m the new Director of Enrollment and Marketing for Calvin Christian School. Though new to this position, I’m not new to Calvin. My family is entering our 6th year as members of the Calvin Christian community with 2 boys going into the 1st and 4th grades and a daughter starting preschool. Our kids have thrived here at Calvin and my husband and I are 100% sold on the Christ-Centered education that Calvin Christian offers.
Now back to what I wanted to share with you, introducing a couple of new programs I’ve put together this summer.
- The Calvin Ambassador program – I’m sure if you were to take a trip in the “way back” machine, you can remember what it was like starting at a new school; not only as a student, but also a parent. Sometimes it can be a bit rough. The Calvin Ambassador program will connect new Calvin families with current families, primarily with children in or around the same grade, to help the new family feel welcomed and to be a resource of information about Calvin. By the way, you don’t have to be an official Calvin Ambassador to be an ambassador for Calvin! Each and every one of us can take a moment to offer a smile, an encouraging word, or to extend an invitation of friendship to a new student or parent.
- Senior-Kindergarten Buddies – a new (and I hope welcomed) senior tradition, pairing each new kindergartner with a senior “buddy”. If you attended convocation this week you got a sneak peek of this! Our seniors and kindergartners, wearing matching “class of” t-shirts, progressed into the gym together followed by each senior giving each of their buddies a gift. Throughout this year, members of the class of 2014 will meet with their kindergarten buddies for special activities.
