Greetings from Chicago! This is Jacob Stout, one of two Stouts in the class of 2014. I spent the first four years post-graduation at Calvin University, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I then spent two years back in San Diego working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Sharp Mary Birch Hospital while working toward my goal of studying medicine to become a physician. Just after the onset of the COVID pandemic, I began my studies at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC, graduating with my M.D. in 2024. I have since moved to Chicago, IL, where I am a resident physician in Internal Medicine at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. The lessons learned at CCHS were foundational for my studies over the last 10 years and my medical career going forward. The biology learned from Dirk Jasperse, math from Deb Boonstra and Dave Bakker, Spanish with Catherine Silva, and English with Emily Wilson are lessons I continue to use daily.

Since graduating from Calvin in 2014, I went on to get my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Biola University and my Master of Music in Performance at Roosevelt University in downtown Chicago. Graduating with an opera degree during COVID was complicated, but I have continued to sing outside of work where possible. In July of 2023 my (now) husband Brenden and I got married at my brother’s church up in Maine and moved to Providence, Rhode Island so I could start my job at Brown University. I am part of the administrative team of the Brown Arts Institute (BAI), and my husband joined the BAI a few months later to do graphic design. Brenden and I just became members at Grace Harbor Church in Providence, rent a cozy house downtown, and enjoy the company of our two cats, Forrest and Melody. I love being back on the East Coast to spend more time with family and enjoy the beautiful New England seasons, and Brenden (who grew up in SoCal) is loving it here, too. We have much to be thankful for.
